The Sunrise period is a 30-day advance registration period where eligible registered trademark and service mark holders may apply for corresponding .info domain names.

Owners of any current trademarks or service marks that have national effect prior to October 2, 2000 are eligible to register their corresponding domain names during the Sunrise period. The domain name must be identical to the textual elements of the trademark or service mark.

We are accepting Sunrise domain name submissions right now until July 15, 2001*.

In addition to the regular contact and name server information required for normal domain name registrations, domains registered during the Sunrise period must also include the following trademark/service mark information:
  1. The ASCII characters composing the trademark or service mark.
  2. The date the trademark or service mark was issued.
  3. The country where the trademark was registered.
  4. The trademark or service mark number.
In the event that separate applicants submit registration requests for an identical domain, the first request (as selected after a randomization process), that meets the criteria for a Sunrise registration will be awarded the domain name.

A .info Sunrise domain can be registered for a minimum of five years and up to a maximum of 10 years. If you pre-register a .info Sunrise domain name and it is successfully registered, your .info domain will be automatically registered for five years.

The pre-registration fee for a .info Sunrise domain name is $10 USD, plus $175 USD for the five-year registration term. This $175 fee will be automatically charged to your credit card if your domain name is selected for registration. Take advantage of our volume discounts for multiple pre-registrations of the same Sunrise domain name and increase your chances of securing the domain name that you want.
1-10 submissions: $10.00 per pre-registration
11-50 submissions: $9.00 per pre-registration
51-100 submissions: $8.00 per pre-registration
101 or more submissions: $7.00 per pre-registration

The more times you submit a trademark advance registration, the greater the chance that you will successfully register that domain through the random selection process.

Domains registered during the Sunrise period will be placed on hold until approximately seven days after the registry goes live on, or around, August 16, 2001*. The registry has adopted this policy in order to ensure that all registrations of .info domains become active at the same time.

If another party registers a domain name matching your trademark or service mark during the Sunrise period, you can assert a challenge against the registrant during the Sunrise Challenge period, which begins at the conclusion of the Sunrise period and continues for 120 days.

sm Dispute resolution services during this period will be provided exclusively by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Domains registered after this period will use ICANN's Uniform Dispute Resolution Process (UDRP) or the regular court system.

A third party may challenge a domain registered during the Sunrise period on the following basis:
  • The registrant does not own a current intellectual property registration.
  • The valid and enforceable intellectual property registration was not of national effect.
  • The second level portion of the domain name is not identical to the intellectual property registration.
  • The intellectual property registration was not issued prior to October 2, 2000.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) charges $295 USD to assert a challenge.

The precise rules and regulations of the Sunrise Challenge process are being developed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Please check back to these web pages frequently for the most up-to-date information.
