.biz is the first domain dedicated solely to the needs of businesses around the world. .biz extends your company's reach on the Internet and identifies you as a registered business.

Phase 1: The Intellectual Property Claim (IP Claim) service runs until July 9, 2001.
Phase 2: Pre-registrations will be accepted soon, until September 25, 2001.
Phase 3: .biz will go live on October 1, 2001.

You do not have to be a registered or incorporated business to register a .biz domain. However, you do need to be involved in the exchange of goods, services or property; the ordinary course of trade or business; or the facilitation of any the aforementioned. A .biz domain can not be used for personal or non-commercial use; and not solely for the purposes of selling, trading or leasing the domain name for compensation; or used for the expression of non-commercial ideas.

Phase 1: The IP Claim period is intended to allow trademark holders a chance to claim the Intellectual Property rights to a .biz domain name, given that they have a registered, applied for, or common law trademark or service mark corresponding to that domain. If you are a trademark or service mark holder, or if you believe that you have a legitimate claim, you can file your domain claim until July 9, 2001.
Please Note: Filing an IP Claim is not a pre-registration or a registration of any specified domain name(s). You will have to pre-register your .biz domain name in order to secure it. DomainPeople will be accepting Intellectual Property Claims soon. Please check back.
Phase 2: Pre-registration allows any business a chance to submit a domain registration request for any .biz domain name. Pre-registrations will be collected soon, and will be processed and awarded through a random selection process. Ultimately, the more pre-registrations that you submit for a domain name, the greater your chance of successfully registering that domain.
Please Note: Pre-registering a .biz domain does not guarantee you a successful registration. You will be notified upon a successful registration. .biz domain names will not become active and accessible over the Web until the registry becomes live in Phase Three.

The .biz domain is intended for business or commercial use. It is ideal for enterprises or individuals with e-commerce web sites. You do not have to be a registered or incorporated business to register a .biz domain. However, you do need to be involved in the exchange of goods, services or property; the ordinary course of trade or business; or the facilitation of any the aforementioned. A .biz domain can not be used for personal or non-commercial use, and not solely for the purposes of selling, trading or leasing the domain name for compensation; or used for the expression of non-commercial ideas.
The domain name must conform to standard rules for domain names:

Only characters in the range A to Z, 0 to 9 and hyphen are allowed
Names can not begin or end with a hyphen
The maximum length is 63 characters (exclusive of the .biz portion)

A .biz domain can be registered for a minimum of two years and up to a maximum of 10 years. If you pre-register a .biz domain name and it is successfully registered through DomainPeople, your .biz domain will be automatically registered for the yearly term requested at a fee of $35USD per year. You may add registration years after the registration has been processed.

Pre-registrations for domain names will be accepted until September 25, 2001*. Domain name selection is a randomized process. At the end of this pre-registration window, pre-registrations will be shuffled, and then randomly selected for registration. DomainPeople will inform you of the status of your domain submissions as soon as we are notified by the .biz Registry.

Fees apply to each pre-registered domain, including duplicate pre-registrations. Take advantage of our volume discounts for multiple pre-registrations of the same domain name and increase your chances of securing the domain name you want.

1-10 submissions:	$5.00 per pre-registration
11-50 submissions:	$4.50 per pre-registration
51-100 submissions:	$4.00 per pre-registration
101 or more submissions:	$3.50 per pre-registration

Please note that pre-registration fees are non-refundable. Should a domain name be successfully registered, a $70 USD fee for the two-year registration term will be automatically charged to your credit card.

Successfully registered domains are expected to become active once the live registration phase begins on, or around, October 1, 2001.*
